Neil Armstrong Elementary School Home
A Message from Our Principal

Dear Armstrong families,

Fall is definitely in the air.  The cold snap has hit and a little more rain will certainly follow.  Please remember to have children wear warm clothing and a jacket.

The holidays are also upon us and we miss a few weeks during November and December.  Sometimes it is difficult for students to focus with so much going on around them. It is important for all of us to keep in mind that children need breaks while studying and doing homework.  Sometimes a little break can reinvigorate us enough to focus and finish up.

Armstrong School is working on reinforcing good character traits.  It is so important to recognize a student when they display good character. We recognize students at lunch when adults or other students see an act of good character. Children learn best when good character is modeled in front of them. When playing games on the playground it is important to be a good sport.  We can teach a child to be a good sport by being a good sport ourselves.   When we attend a game, clap and cheer for players who try hard, even if they’re on the other team.  We will help our children to learn to be gracious to everyone in the game.

We are so fortunate to have a wonderful parent community who care about our children. Our PTA and Boosters do an incredible job providing students and parents with a variety of enrichment and activities.  It takes many, many people to organize our Halloween carnival, movie nights, parent coffees and assemblies.  We have parents who volunteer a multitude of hours to insure that our children receive enriched instruction through a variety of ways. Please consider volunteering in our school whether it is in the classroom, through one of our organizations, or the lunch room.  We could not do it without you!

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our teachers and staff.  We have a remarkable group of hard working people who go FAR beyond to provide our children with everything they need to thrive.  It is obvious that they love what they do!

Our superintendent has scheduled four community forums in November.  This is very similar to what we held last year.  It is open to our community to provide thoughtful conversations on what our next steps should be and what our desire as a community is to move to the next level of excellence.  Our forum will be at California High School on November 16th from 6:30-8:00pm.  I hope many from Neil Armstrong will plan to attend.

As we approach some time off from school I want to wish you some quality time with your family and thank you once again for all your continued efforts in our school community.

Sincerely,

Lorna Monteith
